Boesmansriviermond at a glance

Boesmansriviermond is situated on the bushman's river which is the second longest navigable tidal river in South Africa,  a distance of 33 kilometres.   Boesmansriviermond is 55 km from grahamstown, 75km from Port Elizabeth and 20km from Port Alfred.  Historically the seaside resort of Boesmansriviermond was a holiday destination for farmers and their families from the Alexandria district.

Boesmansriviermond with its fine beaches and rivers, historical places of interest, the replica of the cross planted by Bartolomeu dias in 1488,  Alexandria indigenous forest, numerous game lodges together with the fine beaches and rivers makes Boesmansriviermond a hard place to beat for fun holidays and property acquisition.

The bridge over the Boesmansrivier was constructed in 1955. The lack of access to kenton-on-sea on the east bank of the Boesmansrivier meant that each resort developed their own character.

Boesmansriviermond has retained its small village feeling with many of the original wooden dwellings still standing and in constant use. Many of these older cottages have been lovingly restored and have become "collectors items".

The Boesmansrivier  is tidal and navigable for 33 km, right into farm land, be it cattle or chicory.  The banks of the river having pristine riverine bush with abundant birdlife and wild game.

Game lodges have sprung up on both banks of the river and a river cruise will often result in seeing much game and possibly the big five.  Boesmansriviermond also  has kilometres of pristine beaches with fine bathing  with the warm Mozambique current which runs southwards past the coastline ensures warm water all year around.  Safe swimming is also available at the blue flag kariega beach at kenton-on-sea, being on the east side of the Boesmansrivier.  The Boesmansrivier is suitable for water sports, safe canoeing with boats and canoes available from a riverside marina.

Boesmansriviermond is an attractive destination for holiday makers, with Grahamstown having fine private schools like St. Andrews, diocesan school for girls and Kingswood. Many property owners have children at boarding school and use their properties not only for holidays but also when visiting their children.

Whilst Boesmansriviermond has become a premium holiday destination, there still remains a large divergent array of property, ranging from the basic holiday cottage to the luxurious dwellings with outstanding sea and river views.
