Berea property for sale

East London's Berea was named after the low ridge of hills which runs parallel to the sea (called a "berea").  The area first came under settler development after 1858, with the arrival at East London of the German peasant agriculturists. Each family was given plots of land at either Panmure or Cambridge, as well as acre lots in North End, Southernwood and Cambridge. In 1942 the Cambridge Municipality joined the greater metropolitan area, and Berea became a part of the East London Municipality.

A Berea property is perfect for families wanting the tranquility of suburbia, yet having the convenience of being close by to local attractions and shopping centres. Many of the older homes in Berea that are adjacent to the main transport routes have been converted to office or business accommodation. A number of major schools are very close to Berea. These include Hudson Park  Junior and High Schools, Selborne College and Port Rex Technical schools. As a result Berea has a special feeling all of its own. Not quite a village and yet still having an endearing quaint feel.

East London's mild climate offers warm water ideal for water sport, which is abundantly available for Berea property owners.  The Joan harrison swimming complex is in Selborne adjacent to Berea. Swimming, boating, surfing, kite surfing, river, rock and surf fishing are all available in relative close proximity. The white sandy beaches and huge natural sand dunes are ideal for beach walks. The Nahoon Nature Reserve on the Nahoon River has its own popular nature walk known as 'The Dassie Trial" and only 40 minutes from Berea are several game and nature reserves with the 'Big Five' on sight, making owning a Berea property a priority.

Berea, as an older suburb generally has medium sized homes on large erven. There is a well established retirement complex called Berea Gardens in the centre of the suburb and a few two story blocks of flats but generally the skyline is devoid of any high rise buildings.

Berea is a great middle class area with easy access to shops and schools. It is a popular suburb for both up an coming families and retirees.  The price of properties ranges from R900 000 to R1 400 000.
