In 1947, after the Second World War, Reverend WFH Jeffcoat, the owner of the land Bergvliet, sold a large portion of the Farm to council for the erection of homes for returning war veterans .Bergvliet, translating to Mountain streamlet in Afrikaans, was originally farmland belonging to Simon Van der Stel.
The original Cape Dutch farmhouse still remains and the farm which was divided even smaller , has a natural bird sanctuary Die Oog where birdlife abounds.. This sanctuary is also a wetland and will hopefully be declared a nature reserve in the future.
