Port Elizabeth Property

Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape

Port Elizabeth stretches out along the South Eastern coastline of Africa, bordering on the warm Indian Ocean, and enjoys many of natures wonders, from frolicking dolphins to whales at play in our bay. The beaches are some of the best in the world, many being isolated and therefore unspoilt, with a variety of features from sandy beaches to rocky outcrops.  The combination of clean beaches, warm calm waters and fair breezes provides ideal conditions for the outdoor water sports enthusiasts, such as sailing, fishing, surfing, windsurfing, snorkeling, swimming and scuba divers have lots to see in the form of shipwrecks, coral reefs and beautifully coloured fish with up to 30 metres visibility.  Temperatures are moderate all year round with scattered rainfall throughout the year.  Summers are warm usually with a temperate humidity level and winters are reasonably mild and pleasant, and the climate is a major contributing factor to Port Elizabeth’s reputation for offering an outstanding quality of life.

Port Elizabeth was originally discovered by the Portuguese explorer, Vasco da Gama in the early 14th century but was only fully founded and settled with the arrival of the British Settlers in 1820 under the command of Sir Rufane Donkin who became the first Governor of the city.  In fact, the city is named after Sir Rufane Donkin’s deceased wife, Elizabeth in whose honour the memorial on Donkin Square, was erected.  Known as the FRIENDLY CITY, a tradition that is proudly upheld by a diverse culture, PE is the largest Metropole in the Eastern Cape with a current population of 1.3 million.  The city is close to many internationally renowned wildlife reserves such as Shamwari Game Reserve, Addo Elephant Park and the like, and having the advantage of being situate in a Malaria free area, is ideal for the tourist seeking a totally African experience.

There is a distinct old world charm about Port Elizabeth, reminiscent of the British Settlers colonial era and many of the older properties still bear a strong resemblance to this time in our history.  There are some beautiful parks with well landscaped gardens, namely St Georges Park as well as Settlers Park, situate within the city centre, not to mention the Historic Donkin Heritage Trail, offering a plethora of flora and fauna guaranteed to satisfy the most ardent nature lover.  PE is both a Commercial and Industrial, as well as a vacation city, as both play a major role in its financial wellbeing. Being an important centre for the South African motor industry and home to many of the major car manufacturers, subsidiary company headquarters in addition to hosting Africa’s only deep water harbour, COEGA, the city is currently experiencing a growth spurt due in part to the major economic investment in the COEGA project.  As a result, many international artisans and business men are entering the property market in search of homes for their families moving to the area.  There is a variety of property including large family homes as well as smaller townhouses and apartments  available, designed to suit a broad spectrum of income earners.

All in all you can’t really go wrong buying property in this major sea port and Eco-Friendly city on the beautiful shores of Algoa Bay offering some of the finest schools in the country.  Yes, the secret is out … Port Elizabeth offers a great lifestyle and is a wonderful place to raise a family.
