Saxonwold Property For Sale

The suburb is one of the city's oldest and most attractive and Saxonwold properties for sale are continually in high demand. The area derives its Anglicised name from "The Sachsenwald", a private forest that was established to provide timber for the early gold mines and the rapidly expanding mining town. Saxonwold lies north of the city and is situated in the central spine that links Johannesburg with the newer Rosebank and Sandton CBDs.

Saxonwold properties border on the Johannesburg Zoological Gardens and the Herman Eckstein Park, more commonly known as Zoo Lake. The National Military History Museum also borders Saxonwold real estate. Broad tree lined avenues are a trademark of the suburb and although few, if any, of the original trees exist, most Saxonwold properties have been replanted with trees over the decades re-creating a verdant forest.

The Attraction of Saxonwold Properties

Saxonwold property is extremely well situated for both business and educational facilities. Many well established private and popular schools surround the suburb, including The Ridge School in Westcliff; Roedean School, St Katherine's, and the German School in Parktown; St John's, King Edwards in Houghton and Jan Celliers in Parkview. The Universities of Johannesburg and Witwatersrand are also within easy reach. It is the close proximity of these facilities, as well as the nearby business districts, motorways, the Gautrain rail link, and the shopping malls of Rosebank and Killarney that draws home seekers to Saxonwold properties.

Saxonwold real estate offers properties of around 2000m² in extent, with a few of 4000m² and 1000m². Although the houses were mainly built in 1920s and 1930s, most Saxonwold properties for sale have been extensively renovated and enlarged to provide the space and facilities that purchasers now require.   There is an excellent community spirit and residents have established a successful security initiative in the suburb, however crime is extremely rare and there is an excellent community spirit.

Specifics Of Saxonwold Real Estate

Although Saxonwold properties total over 440, annual property sales average around 40 as most families become established in the suburb and don't feel the need to move until well after children have left the "nest". Many Johannesburg families upgrade to Saxonwold real estate from neighbouring suburbs, as well as the outlying northern suburbs, seeking larger properties and closer proximity to work and schools. Due to the relatively low number of properties for sale at any given time, demand in Saxonwold remains constant with purchasers recognising the suburb as a sound investment suburb.
