Zonnebloem in Cape Town can be literally translated as ‘Sunflower'. It is an ironic translation considering the history of this area, which was previously known as District 6. District 6 was a vibrant mixed race area until the apartheid government of South Africa forcibly removed its' residents in 1965, declaring it a ‘whites-only' area. It is situated between the city to its' West, below De Waal Drive and above the N2 Freeway.

The main attractions to Zonnebloem are the North-facing views of Table Bay and the city and the fascinating history of the area, which is extremely well documented at the District 6 Museum in Buitenkant Street.
