If you're a Mtunzini resident, your closest airport is Richards Bay Airport, which is approximately 50km from home. From here, you can fly to various airports on Airlink.  King Shaka International, just north of Durban, is your next closest airport and from here you'll be able to fly to a wider array of destinations. You'll need to travel just over 100km to get there, which will take just over an hour in average traffic. Mtunzini is located adjacent to the N2, so you have easy access to both Durban and Richards Bay.

Mtunzini's history: uncover the backstory

Mtunzini gets its name from the Zulu word emthunzini which means place in the shade. This name is in honour of the abundance of Milkwood trees that you'll find along the Mlalazi estuary. The town was founded by John Dunn, who was a diplomatic advisor to King Cetshwayo after the Zulu Civil War of 1856. After acquiring 49 Zulu wives, he received a large tract of land, on part of which Mtunzini now lies.
