Cintsa at a glance

The enchanting seaside village of Cintsa (or Chintsa) can be found 45km north east of East London, in the Wild Coast region of the Eastern Cape. Deriving its name from the Chintsa River (meaning river of crumbling banks in the Xhosa dialect) that divides Cintsa into two ‘towns’; Cintsa East and West which ironically lies on the northern and southern shore of the river, respectively.

This part of the coast is an unspoiled natural treasure, reminding those who visit of all things untamed and unaffected. The stark beauty of this region is enhanced even further by; angular rock faces, untouched beaches, endless valleys and striking views of its remarkable coastline.

Cintsa’s lagoon dominates its landscape, which is framed by white sandy dunes and stretches of the most pristine shorelines. The climate and sea are both timid in Cintsa, and factoring in that the beaches are quieter than those in East London, staying in Cintsa is an enticing choice for families and those wanting to unwind and soak in all of its natural splendour.

Cintsa East and West, though small in size, have all the amenities and conveniences on offer, or in close proximity to the town – maintaining its rural feel but providing world-class services.

Healthcare

There are upwards of 20 top quality medical facilities in and around of the town, with numerous private and public hospitals in East London just 30min away.

Medicross East London

The Medicross medical centre offers accessible private medical services of the highest quality comprising; dental care, a HIV clinic, pharmacy, physiotherapy, radiology and pathology- all under one roof. This excellent facility is situated approximately 40km from Cintsa and is open until 9pm –meeting all primary healthcare needs.

Education 

There is one school in Cintsa itself, the Cintsa East Primary, but due to its proximity to East London various other educational institutions, including the University of East London, are available to parents in the Cintsa area.

Hudson Park

This renowned institution offers learners with the best opportunities in education – building a solid framework catered to each individual child. Aiming to develop learners’ analytical processes and creativity – they accommodate pre-primary, foundation, intermediate-phase and high school learners. Computer literacy plays an integral part in their style of teaching and they have the latest systems and hardware to their disposal. Academies for advance academics, cultural programmes and professional sporting coaches are all available to the students.

Clarendon School for Girls

This prestigious school was named one of the top 25 schools in the country and was founded in 1903. With their school’s motto – fac et spera, which means work and hope deeply rooted in their culture - it has gained a good reputation with regard to their academic achievement, sportsmanship, and involvement in cultural and community service. This school prides themselves with the honesty, considerate and respectful nature of their pupils who have achieved a 100% pass rate for 21 years.

Attractions

Cintsa Beach

Divided by the Chinsta River estuary, this unspoilt beach is the perfect place to spend lazy days filled with long walks and sunbathing. Along this long sandy stretch there are always surfers in the waves, interesting rock pools to explore and safe, calm waters to swim in. The biggest drawcard, however, is the schools of dolphins and pods of whales that can regularly be spotted from the shore.

Inkwenkwezi Game Reserve 

The Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve, located 5km outside of Cintsa West, is a reserve in a class of its own and provides visitors with a lavish experience, paying close attention to every detail. Falling under a malaria free zone, the reserve boasts many unique opportunities and comprises five different regional eco-systems and a tidal estuary. Visitors can expect diverse landscapes and unmatched wildlife viewings of the big five and other wild animals native to the area.

This reserve also features many fun activities including; leisurely canoe rides, exciting quad bike trails, guided game drives and hikes as well as their elephant sanctuary. Visitors are educated and transported into the world of the African elephant; you can even get more close and personal with these magnificent creatures by going on a mini safari while atop the back of these gentle giants.

Emerald Vale Brewery

Established in April 2012 and named after the Emerald Vale farm, this microbrewery is situated 4km from Cintsa East. With a rural setting and sweeping views, the brewery hosts a 500 litre brewing system and provides tours of the facility with beer tastings – explaining the complexities of their beers and ales. This child friendly environment comprises a brewery building, restaurant, children’s play area, and their Hops Shop - it also hosts many events and has a myriad of activities on offer.

The Barefoot Café

Known for having ‘the best burger on the beach’, this little eatery opened its doors seven years ago, founded by two local surfers who used their backgrounds in the hospitality industry to create this charismatic café. With its laidback and friendly atmosphere it serves up everything from breakfasts, pizzas and of course their famous burgers.

The C Club 

Situated at the top of a hill in Cintsa East, this rustic restaurant is set amongst shady trees, rolling manicured lawns and stunning gardens. Once a milk shed, The C Club has created countless memories and is a firm favourite among visitors and locals alike. Blending into its stunning surroundings, it boasts a bar, wide outdoor stoep and kids play area. Renowned for its delicious cuisine, this family is the perfect venue for family outings.

Cintsa has a mix pot of people residing in its borders from; stalwart locals, backpackers, migrants from other provinces and visitors who just decided to stay in this close-knit community, all driving up the popularity of Cintsa real estate.
